A Dog Barking At The Moon
Xiang Zi, 2019, China/Spain, 108 min
Xiaoyu returns to China with her American husband in tow to visit her parents, whose relationship is as dysfunctional as ever. Her father’s homosexuality set off a domestic earthquake many years ago, with aftershocks extending to the present as the family still struggles to maintain their integrity. Daughter, mother, and father are each haunted by the past as they try to make sense of the present, where a pregnant Xiaoyu ponders starting a family of her own.
In Mandarin and English with English subtitles.
