Greetings from Queertown: Orlando
Jess Keller, 2023, Florida, 50 min.
In the aftermath of the Pulse horror, Rick Todd (Watermark) watched the Orlando community coalesce around the outpouring of grief and deepening sadness. Those reflections led to a sense of pride and homage for his beloved Orlando, and for those who paved the way toward a thriving LGBT community, even in the face of tragedy. Queertown is a look back at the unique history of LGBT Orlando from the influence of Disney to the legendary status of the Parliament House as seen through the lives of some of Queer Orlando’s prominent trailblazers. Social activist and renowned Drag star, Darcel Stevens figures prominently in the history of LGBT progress in Tampa’s glitzy sister to the East. Other notable appearances include City Commissioner Patty Sheehan, the first openly LGBT person elected – and consistently reelected – in Orlando, and Tom Dwyer, Founder of Watermark Media.
